New insurance rates for 2008 have been released for Weymouth retirees and active employees. Retirees are reminded that December is open enrollment month – the one time each year that changes can be made. In December, retirees can enter the plan without occurrence of a special qualifying event. Questions about health insurance may be directed to the Human Resources Office (781-682-3598) or the Retirement Office (781-331-8721).
Retirees are reminded that they are required to enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B at age 65 if they are qualified for Medicare coverage. If an enrollment card and information is not received prior to a person’s 65th birthday, they should contact the Social Security Administration to find out if they are qualified. A person may find they are not qualified on their own employment history, but may be qualified under a spouse’s Medicare eligibility. The Medicare supplement (Medicare Enhance) offered by the Town of Weymouth also provides for retirees’ prescription drug coverage. Our retirees are advised to NOT enroll in Medicare Part “D” coverage. The Town of Weymouth receives a partial reimbursement from the Federal Government for each member enrolled in our Medicare Enhance program. |
